Jasper asked to be back with Lapis.which would make jasper the emotionally abused and badly attached person, and how do they have Lapis respond to this request? By punching her. Just because Jasper eventually gained control for a very short time to fight the gems does not really equate turning the tables here. She accepted and essentially turned it into an assult forcing Jasper into doing something she didnt want to do for quite some time. but if anything I would think that Lapis was the bad guy in this analogy. I get that it was about abusive / bad relationships. Just, good lord, they've really gotta be careful with this one. That said, I trust the team behind this, and I'm willing to be proven wrong. I get why folks want Jasper to have redemption, and maybe she still will to some extent, but I cannot see it ever leading to her becoming part of the Crystal Gems, nor them ever coming to respect and love her as much as they do each other. As well as that, in retrospect the way those sorts of characters back in the day made heel-turns is fucking ridiculous when compared with more nuanced stories like SU. #Peridot steven universe mostrecent episode series#We can joke about how characters in other fiction referenced like Piccolo/Vegeta in the Dragonball series eventually made a turn, but even then they were still very nebulously good characters that had very messy inclusions into the main group of heroes before they could ever be considered as much of a hero themselves. She was very much the enemy in the war, and now she's still that, but there's even more that the audience has seen now to muddy the waters. This isn't like Jasper was shown to start off as a good person or someone admirable that may have become twisted over time or due to a change in circumstances. Jasper started off bad, and is still bad, and there's no real remorse shown.
